Full time assistant position
JOB OF FER: full-time assistant position (38h) to be filled in the Paras itology / Mycology Service of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV) of the University of Liège (Belgium) for a period of 2 years, renewable
Starting date: September 15, 2020
Duration: 2 years (renewable twice).
The candidate will participate in the teaching activities of the Parasitology / Mycology service of the FMV, and will engage in the production of a PhD thesis on the theme of dermatophytes.
Teaching activities:
- Supervision of practical work / directed work in parasitology in FMV (Bloc3, Masterl and partim Master2).
- Participation in the management of the above-mentioned practical activities.
The teaching activities are divided into two blocks of 14 weeks between mid-September and mid-December, and 15 weeks between February and May. During these periocls, the candidate will ensure the activities, in conjunction with a scientific collaborator, for an average attendance time of 8 hours / week.
Presentation of the host laboratory:
The FMV Parasitology / Mycology laboratory is a research laboratory working on dermatophytes. This laboratory also provides diagnostic activity for the veterinary community. lt is currently composed of a Professor, a post-doctoral fellow, an assistant, two technicians, one of whom is on an external research contract, and a secretary. The laboratory has developed skills on dermatophytes, and in particular on host-pathogen interactions, through the development of experimental animal models.
Research activity:
The candidate will carry out a PhD thesis in the field of the study of the pathogenesis of dermatophytosis, within the framework of an inter-university research programme (MycEpi) already funded and in association with the current research team. Several
research the mes are planned, the title of t he thesis subject will be specified according to the profile of the successful candidate.
Community service:
- Support for the activities of the Parasitology / Mycology Laboratory.
Profile of the candidate / reguirements:
- Hold a diploma in vet erinary medicine or a university degree in life sciences (microbiology, biomedical sciences, etc.).
- Have distinguished him/herself du ring his/her studies.
- Have a strong interest in scientific research and teamwork.
- Research experience and ski lis in molecular biology are not essential, but would be an asset.
- Rigor, adaptability, proactivity, inventiveness and the willingness to quickly acquire autonomy and versatility are necessary qualities.
