Graduate Research Assistantships in Organic Agriculture

One M.S. and one Ph.D. graduate research assistant positions are available in the Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science (BESS) at the University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville, TN. The selected candidates will study agronomic and ecological aspects of organic grain cropping systems. The scrutiny of applications will begin immediately and will continue until suitable candidates are selected.

The applicants must have B.S. and/or M.S. degree in one or more of the following fields: soil science, plant science, agronomy, weed science or a closely related field with demonstrated experience or enthusiasm in organic agriculture. Applicants should also hold an excellent academic record, strong oral and written communication skills, excellent work ethic, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated experience in field-based research, laboratory soil analysis, and interaction with stakeholders are a plus. The students are expected to start and manage organic field trials in Tennessee. So, a valid driver license is required. The successful applicants will receive a tuition waiver, a competitive stipend, and health insurance.

Preferred start date is Fall 2020. Spring start date may also be possible.
