Operations Manager Ranch (DR Congo)

Job description for an Operations Manager of our Cattle Ranch in RDC

The ranch is spread over two large areas:

Area 150 km west of Kinshasa

Area 150 km east of Kinshasa

In one of the areas there is already a good Operations Manager active (European with good knowledge of Africa) and the latter will be able to transfer knowledge and be a good coach for the new Operations Managers in the other area (there is aircraft transport between the 2 areas)

The area is generally safe (of course with due observance of the right rules of conduct and attitude), and there is a correct living accommodation available with the necessary domestic staff, and good internet.

The ranch environment is adventurous in terms of road infrastructure and vastness, so a jeep is needed (experienced local driver is available), and it is certainly an asset if one can also travel with a motorcycle to be able to do inspections deep enough in the ranch.

Finally, the candidate must have a passion for the terrain, an affinity for the well-being and health of the cattle, natural leadership talent and also have sufficient adaptability and entrepreneurial spirit to be able to deal with unexpected and/or more difficult situations (e.g. with regard to personnel discipline, various problems on or around the ranch, etc…).

Note: If the candidate also has conceptual thinking competencies with potential to grow into a broader leadership function it is a trump card. But at this moment it is more important that the candidate is frontline/bottom-up focused. For the more administrative tasks (financial/accounting/ legal topics) we have put in place the right persons that do a pretty good job under guidance of the board.

If the candidate has a partner, we cannot immediately provide an additional job, but there is the possibility for the partner to be part-time involved in the social services that the company offers to its staff, i.e. mainly various infirmaries with doctor/nurses who provide first line help and care to the company’s staff & close family. There is also an opportunity to manage better partnerships with neighboring schools.
